This is a Japanese porcelain bowl hand-painted with orange, blue and pink overglaze colors made for San Francisco's beloved department store, Gump's. Given the color choices, we estimate this as being made sometime in the late 1960s to 1970s.
In terms of its place in your tea presentation, this bowl would make an excellent vessel for rinse water or spent leaves, especially when paired with our brass-wrapped export plate, which appears to be decorated by the same maker using nearly identical motifs of blue and orange camellias.
